Employee Spotlight: Meeting Jennifer Rovinski, the Quality Manager Living “The Wiscon Way”

At Wiscon Products, precise engineering and high-quality manufacturing aren't just goals—they are promises. Keeping those promises requires a leadership team that balances strict technical standards with a deeply collaborative spirit.

This month, we are sitting down with Jennifer Rovinski, our Quality Manager, to discuss her 31-year journey in quality assurance, how her team adapted to a changing market, and why an internal audit should end with a "thank you."

Manufacturing in the DNA

For Jennifer, a career in manufacturing felt like a natural calling. Growing up as an only child in Racine, Wisconsin, the industry surrounded her.

"My dad worked at Case, and my mom worked at Benjamin Sheridan and later Harley-Davidson," Jennifer shares. "Manufacturing was just what we did. When I graduated high school in 1995, my parents pointed out how massive ISO standards were becoming in the industry. Plus, one of my grandparents had worked in quality, too."

Following their advice, Jennifer looked into Gateway Technical College, earning her Associate Degree in Quality Assurance. She started at the very beginning—inspecting incoming parts—before learning coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programming and overall quality processes, climbing the ranks to Senior Quality Technician, Supervisor, and ultimately, Quality Manager. Along the way, the industry even brought her personal joy: she met her husband while working at BRP.

A Day in the Life: From Scrap Reports to Micronite Data

Now with 31 years of quality experience under her belt—the last two spent leading the department at Wiscon Products—Jennifer keeps a finger on the pulse of the entire shop floor.

Her day kicks off alongside Wiscon's quality technician, analyzing scrap reports from the previous day’s shifts to immediately catch and troubleshoot any irregularities. From there, she transitions into Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) for new parts, building out comprehensive workbooks, control plans, and bubbled prints.

To keep Wiscon at the forefront of modern manufacturing, Jennifer utilizes Micronite, an advanced data analysis system. "I create the tracking profiles for all of our new part numbers, and then I work closely with our engineers and machinists to see exactly how those parts are running," she explains. "I try to make it a point to talk to every single operator daily."

"Our main goal is simple: total customer satisfaction. We don't want nonconforming parts to leave this building. We want happy customers, period."

Shifting Gears in a Changing Market

The manufacturing landscape is rarely static, and the past year threw a curveball at precision machine shops nationwide. For Wiscon, it meant pivoting away from massive, long-run automotive contracts and stepping outside of their comfort zone.

"Our biggest challenge lately has been the market," Jennifer notes. "Instead of large, consistent orders, we had to adjust rapidly to handle a high volume of smaller, highly diverse orders. We went from producing tiny components for defense weapons to massive pistons for heavy hydraulics."

Navigating that kind of variety requires immense agility. "We tried completely new things. Not every single project went flawlessly according to plan on the first try, but I am incredibly proud of how our team rallied together, adapted, and pushed through it."

Blame-Free Audits and the "Wiscon Family"

When President and CEO Torben Christensen points out who embodies the company's culture, Jennifer is at the top of the list. But her approach to corporate quality might surprise people who picture strict clipboards and finger-pointing.

"When I first interviewed here, I told Torben: 'I will audit people, and they will thank me for it,'" Jennifer laughs. "I’m not there to point fingers or catch people making mistakes. I am there to improve the process for everybody."

That philosophy creates a culture of transparency where operators feel secure reporting errors early. "I want us to operate like a family business where everyone feels comfortable. If you run into an issue or accidentally make a bad part, don't be afraid. Tell me ahead of time so we can fix it together."

This tight-knit camaraderie extends past the machinery. Whether it's monthly training or team-building exercises led by Jennifer, regular potluck lunches where everyone brings a dish to share, or Torben bringing his dog into the office, the environment is defined by closeness.

Outside the Shop: Boats, Bikes, and Fosters

When she isn't analyzing data or leading ISO internal audits, Jennifer and her husband embrace the great outdoors. They love heading out on the water for boat days, riding their motorcycle, and staying involved with the local Moose Lodge.

But her biggest passion project takes place right at home. Jennifer is a dedicated animal lover who has opened her heart and home to foster an incredible 64 dogs over the years, giving vulnerable pups a soft place to land.
